Men’s Tennis Team Records 5-2 Win over NC State

March 27, 1999

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In late action Friday, the Florida State men’s
tennis team defeated North Carolina State 5-2 and improved its record to
3-3 in ACC competition.

The Seminoles were led by seniors Yvo Niks and Steve Weinstein. Niks won
his 12th match of the dual match season, while Weinstein won his second
straight match since returning from a back injury that has sidelined him
the entire season. Other singles winners for FSU were junior Mike Ingham
at No.4 and sophomore Chad Mooney at No.5. The Seminoles won the doubles
point, sweeping all three doubles matches. The freshmen combo of Noah
Schnell and Jeff Scarella recorded their first win of the season at No.2
doubles.

Seniors Ty Braswell and Davidson Kozlowski teamed to defeat NC State’s
Roberto Bracone and Shaun Thomas at No.1 doubles, 8-6. Later in the day,
Braswell fell to Bracone, a former ACC flight champion, at No.1 singles.

The Seminoles will need to win their last two ACC matches to improve on
last season’s 4-4 league record. FSU plays at UNC on Sunday at 2:00pm.

Following Sunday’s action, the Seminoles will conclude the regular season
with four matches at home at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center, beginning
with a match vs. South Florida on Saturday, April 3rd at 2 p.m.
