Men’s Tennis Wins 10th Of Season

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The Florida State men’s tennis team improved
its overall record to 10-5 and to 2-2 in the conference with its third
shutout of the season. The Seminoles swept the Maryland Terrapins 7-0 to
rebound from a mid-week loss to Florida.

The 55th-ranked Seminoles got straight set wins from all six
singles players and won all three doubles matches against the unranked
Maryland Terrapins. Sophomore Xavier Luscan won his 11th match at No. 1
singles against Maryland’s No. 1 player Larry Chou, 6-2, 6-4.

FSU sophomore Jeff Scarella played at No. 5 singles for the third
time this season improving to 3-0 at the position with a 6-1, 6-1 win over
Maryland’s Dan Kenshalo. Freshman Joe Bassett played in his third dual
match of the season winning at No. 6 singles 6-4, 2-1 ret. Bassett
improved his dual match record to 2-1.

In doubles, the FSU tandem of freshman Rodrigo Laub and Luscan won
for the first time in six matches defeating Maryland’s Peter Harjes and
Lvan Nguyen at No. 1 doubles 8-2. At No. 2, senior Mike Ingham teamed with
Scarella to win their third match of the dual match season, 8-2, over
Maryland’s Chou and Chris Chiu. Junior Chad Mooney and Bassett won at No.
3 doubles in only their second match together. The duo put away Kenshalo
and Murchison of Maryland by a score of 8-4.

The Seminoles will continue their road trip with a match on Sunday
versus the 38th-ranked Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville, Va. Florida
State will return home for a key ACC match with North Carolina State on
March 30th.
