Atlanta, Ga. – The ITA Regional Championships wrapped up on Tuesday with the consolation singles finals and doubles finals. In the consolation singles final, Seminole senior Jose Gracia took on Andy Andrade of Florida.
Gracia fell in a tough three-set match. He won the first set 6-2, but could not keep it rolling as he lost the ensuing two sets 6-3, 6-3.
“I was glad to see Jose make a run in the back draw at regionals,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “The back draw is not easy to play in, but he did well. It is good for his confidence and his development leading into the spring.”
The Noles had two singles players, Guy Iradukunda and Alex Knaff, make it to singles quarterfinals with Knaff advancing to the semifinals at the ITA Regional Championship. Iradukunda and Knaff both advanced to the quarterfinals of doubles as well.
“I thought it was a good performance overall this weekend,” said Hultquist. “Alex was definitely the highlight of the weekend. I liked how he fought hard, as well as how the rest of the team fought. I was very pleased with how we played and where we are at, but I want to keep getting better.”
Florida State is back on the court Nov. 1-5 as they head to Indian Wells, Calif. to compete in the ITA Fall Championships. The doubles team of Gracia and Lucas Poullain have qualified and the Seminoles look to have more make it into the Fall Championship utilizing the at-large/wildcard opportunities.
