INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – On day three of the 2017 Oracle ITA Fall Championships, which hosts the top singles and doubles players from around the country, the Florida State men’s tennis team finished up play after the round of 16.
Redshirt senior Lucas Poullain began the day for the Seminoles as he took on two time NAIA national champion Kevin Konfederak of Georgia Gwinnett. Poullain had a rough start as he fell 6-0 in set one. He was able to bounce back and win set two in convincing fashion, 6-1. Set three was a battle with Poullain taking a 4-3 lead. Konfederak took back the lead, 5-4, and beat Poullain in a hard-fought battle, 6-0, 1-6, 7-5.
Senior Guy Iradukunda took on sixth seed and No. 30 ranked Emil Reinberg of Georgia. Iradukunda’s tournament came to an end after a 6-3, 6-1 straight set loss.
“We had a great week,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “We had a great time in Palm Springs. I am really proud of our guy and the matches they played in.”
The Fall Championships was Florida State’s last fall event. The Noles get back on the court to start the spring season on Jan. 6 in Hawaii.
