Men’s Track & Field Third After First Day of ACC Indoor Championships

BLACKSBURG, VA — The Florida State men’s track team finished the first
day of the ACC Indoor Track Championships in third place with 22 total
points. NC State is first with 60 points and North Carolina stands in
third with 27. The women are eighth with nine points as North Carolina
leads with 86 points and Clemson is third with 34 after six events.

Sophomore Donald Heaven, a two-sport athlete who is a starting offensive
guard for the Seminole football team, recorded a third place throw in the
men’s shot put at 54-2. Also picking up third place points was Zyris Hill
in the long jump with a mark of 24-7. Tallahassee native Darius Jones
added a seventh place effort in the long jump and the Seminoles took third
in the distance medley.

For the women, Lakeisha Mose led the way with third place points in the
shot put after a toss of 57-6.25. Chinette Johnson placed seventh in the
new event of women’s pole vault (8-2.50) and Shannon Steele was eighth in
the high jump (5-5) to complete the scoring for the Lady Seminoles.

Action resumes tomorrow morning with the finals in several field events
while the afternoon session features the finals in all of the sprint and
distance events and concludes with the mile relay.
