MIAMI, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team nearly pulled off another huge upset before losing to the University of Miami 5-4. Two weeks ago, FSU defeated 19th ranked South Alabama for their first win against a top 20 school under head coach Lise Gregory. Coming into Saturday’s match, Miami was ranked #22 in the country. The Hurricanes have stuggled however of late and are 6-5 on the season. The Seminoles record drops to 8-3.



Florida State was led by freshman Alida Gallovits, who gave the 28th ranked Lioudimila Skavronskaia her first loss of the season. Skavronskaia was 13-0 on the year and 9-0 at No.1 for the Lady Hurricanes. Gallovits improves to 6-5 on the season and that was her second victory this season over a ranked opponent. Also winning for FSU, was freshman Marina Raic and junior Kia Asberg. Raic improves to 9-2 on the season and Asberg increases her team leading victory total to 10.



In doubles, Alida Gallovits and partner Nanette Duxin hung tough against the 33rd ranked team in the country, Skavronskaia and Alanna Broderick, before finally falling 8-5. Gallovits and Duxin are now 5-2 this season. The only victorious doubles tandem for the Lady Seminoles was juniors Kia Asberg and Ali Weber at No.3. They earned their fifth victory together against Miami’s Marcy Hora and Sophie Cortina, 8-3. The match was clinched for Miami when the doubles team of Katia Bogomolova and Eva Jimenez defeated FSU’s Raic and Jessica Balbuena, 9-8. It was Raic and Balbuena’s second match of the season playing at No.2. Their record drops to 6-2 for the season.



FSU looks to end this recent two match losing streak against Florida International on Sunday at 11am in Miami. This match against Miami was the first of six consecutive road matches for the Lady Seminoles.
