TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – In the first round of singles play, Florida State’s Vahid Mirzadeh fell in the Individual NCAA Championships. The senior will return to the courts tomorrow for the first round of doubles play. No. 25 Mirzadeh, a native of Wellington, Fla., dropped to No. 58 Amit Inbar of UCLA 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.
After losing the first set, Mirzadeh was down 5-1 in the second set. The senior stepped up his game and proceeded to win six straight games to force a third set. During the second set his opponent had match point, but was held off.
Doubles play begins tomorrow when Mirzadeh and sophomore Connor Smith (Tampa, Fla.), who are ranked No. 13 in the nation, will face the No. 39 duo of Romain Bocaert and Lucas Viel of South Alabama. In doubles play the `Noles are 19-8.
The NCAA tournament is taking place at Stanford University in Stanford, Calif., at the Taube Family Tennis Center. The school has been hosting the team championships since May 19 and it continue through May 30 at the conclusion of singles and doubles finals.
