Mississippi State and Auburn Are Tied For Team Lead After Firts Round of Chrysler ACC/SEC Challenge.

DESTIN, Fla. –
Mississippi State and Auburn are tied at 294 after the first round of the third annual Chrysler ACC/SEC Women’s Golf Challenge at the Raven Course at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. Both Mississippi State and Auburn lead Florida by one stroke and Duke by three strokes after the first round. Mississippi State is led by Beth Irwin and Sofie Anderson who are tied for fourth in the individual standings. Auburn is lead by Celeste Troche who carded a three-under par 68 and is in third place. Troche won individual medalist honors at the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge in 2000.


Mississippi State’s Irwin and NC State’s Sarah Bonner, playing within the same three-some, both carded hole-in-ones on the 16th hole. It was the first career collegiate hole-in-ones for both players.


Duke’s Elizabeth Janangelo, who shot a four-under par 67, leads the individual standings heading into Saturday’s second round. Janangelo’s 67 established a tournament record for a single-round score. The previous record was 68 by South Carolina’s Darby Sligh during the 2001 ACC/SEC Shootout.


Troche led three Auburn golfers to the top-15 of the individual standings. Troche is followed by teammates Diana Ramage (tied for 4th, even par 71) and Maru Martinez (tied for 13th, three-over par 74).


Janangelo who leads the individual standings after the first round leads Duke, the defending NCAA Champion. Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh carded a four-over par 75 while Kristina Engstrom shot a four-over par 75.


Florida State, the host school, is in sixth place in the team standings. The Seminoles begin play in Saturday’s second round only six strokes behind Auburn and only three strokes behind Duke. Junior Alison Curdt led the Seminoles with a two-over par 73. She was followed by senior Kristin Tamulis who carded a three-over par 74. Junior Carrie Sordel also played well for the Seminoles and finished the first round with a four-over par 75.


The second round of the tournament begins at 7:30am Saturday with the third and final round beginning at 8 am. Sunday. A team champion, individual champion and conference champion will be determined after 54 holes of play. Florida, the defending tournament champion, is in 3rd place after the first round.
