Moldovan and Deason Concluded Career Season Against Team Champion Doubles Duo from Stanford

Athens, Ga. – The 18th-ranked doubles duo of Florida State women’s tennis senior All-American Mihaela Moldovan (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and junior Lindsay Deason (Ft. Myers, Fla./Boca Raton prep) played the final match of their doubles career at the 2005 NCAA Women’s Tennis Doubles Championships on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 in Athens, Ga.

Moldovan and Deason lost to #8 Alice Barnes and Erin Burdette of 2005 NCAA Women’s Tennis Team Champion Stanford, 6-3, 6-4. The pair reached personal best heights during the season, with Moldovan picking up the most doubles wins in a season this year (15) and Deason coming within one win of her personal best mark (16). The 2005 campaign included a streak of doubles upsets against #3 Florida, #4 Miami and #12 Alabama.

The Seminole women’s tennis squad finished the 2005 campaign, dropping a tough contest to higher-ranked FIU in the first round of the NCAA Regional. In head coach Jennifer Hyde’s first season at FSU since she captained one of the best teams in the program’s history – the 1994 squad, she amassed an 11-12 record including wins over No. 25 San Diego State and No. 33 Alabama. The squad made their ninth NCAA appearance in ten seasons as well as reached the quarterfinals of the ACC Women’s Tennis Championships. FSU dominated the doubles point with each position picking up ten wins this season and had four singles players reached double digit wins.
