NOTES:
The Seminoles opened fall practice with a 20-period workout in shorts Monday afternoon. Tuesday’s session will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will conclude approximately 12:00 noon. The team motto for the 2004 season is “It’s Time” which is written on the players’ undershirts. Senior wide receiver Craphonso Thorpe, a Biletnikoff semifinalist last year, returned to practice for the first time since breaking his leg against NC State in 2003.

BOBBY BOWDEN QUOTES:

“Our strength coaches have been working with the guys all summer so we had an idea of what kind of shape they were in. It was a perfect first day for them, cool and overcast. You couldn’t ask for a better weather. I hope it will gradually get warmer.”

(On motto)

“It’s pretty self explanatory. It’s time for us to get back up there with the big boys. It’s been a couple years. Anybody who keeps up with Florida State football knows what our motto means.”

(On Thorpe)

“We would bring him along the same no matter who we were playing in the opener. We will bring him along cautiously. He looked good today. He made some nice moves which is what you want to see coming off an injury.”

PLAYER QUOTES:

WR Craphonso Thorpe

(On the first day of practice)

“It (my leg) felt good; better than I thought it would. In and out of my breaks I felt pretty quick. My speed in and out of my breaks was fast. I was happy.

“Personally I don’t feel the games are won on the game field. I feel they are won on the practice field during the summer and at practice during the week. I feel all the work we did during the summer is going to pay off.”

(On the team motto)

“We feel that we have been under-achieving for the past four or five years. It (the slogan) speaks for itself. It’s time for a change. In 2001 we won eight games; in 2002 we won nine and in 2003 we won 10. That’s not satisfactory for us. It’s time. That’s our focus. It’s a great team slogan.”

RV Jerome Carter

(On the first day of practice)

“I think practice went pretty good today. Everybody is getting back into the flow and things are looking good. Some guys are a little bit rusty but it’s just the first day. I think we looked good all around. The defense looked good for this being the first day.

“Everybody being here during the summer is really going to help with our chemistry. We don’t have to wait for our chemistry to come while we are out here on the practice field. Everybody was out here on the field during the summer and that helped us all come together. I think we are going to benefit from that in the long run.”

(On the team motto)

“It’s time. It explains itself. We have to go out and play. It’s time to go.”
