Nov. 30, 2009

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s Rachael Morgan has been named the American Volleyball Scouting Report Player of the Week for the second time this season, AVSR officials announced Monday.

Morgan set a new career high with 17 kills to lead No. 14 FSU to a 3-1 victory over Miami last week in the team’s final regular-season match of the season. The Tauranga, New Zealand native finished the match with an impressive .516 hitting percentage.

She also added four digs, three blocks and one assist for the Atlantic Coast Conference Champion Seminoles (28-2).

Rachael had a great match against Miami and continues to mature as a player,” FSU head coach Chris Poole said. “Rachael is just a sophomore but she has made great strides and has become a go-to player for us. We expect her to be a huge factor for us in the NCAA Tournament.”

Morgan was previously the AVSR’s Player of the Week on Oct. 12 after back-to-back stellar matches against Duke and Wake Forest.

The AVSR is a recruiting service that works only with international players and helps

place them all over the United States. Every Monday of the fall, American Volleyball Scouting Report selects one collegiate player originally reported as a recruit by the service and names that student-athlete player of the week for her cumulative performance during the current season.

Next up for Morgan and her teammates is the NCAA Tournament, which begins this weekend.

As a No. 3 national seed, FSU will play host to Alabama A&M, Florida A&M and Jacksonville State in the Minneapolis, Minn. Regional bracket. The Seminoles’ first match is against the Bulldogs on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Tully Gymnasium.
