TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – In recognition of her accomplishments both on and off the field, sophomore outfielder Morgan Klaevemann was named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 First Team, as announced on Thursday. Klaevemann is one of 12 players named to the First Team as District 4 represents schools from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico and South Carolina.
It is the 14th time in the last 15 years that the Seminoles have placed a student-athlete on the Academic All-District Teams, including Ellie Cooper in 2015. Kelly Hensley earned a CoSIDA Academic All-America® honor in 2013 and was named the ACC Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
“Morgan is such a bright kid,” said FSU head coach Lonni Alameda. “She is a quick learner and very intuitive. She has softball smarts and knows the game at a deep level and applies herself with the same amount of intensity to her school work. Morgan is a great representative of Florida State, both as a university and as a softball program.”
A native of Refugio, Texas, Klaevemann has posted a 3.44 cumulative GPA as she pursues a bachelor’s degree in biological science. She was named to the FSU Dean’s List in the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters and aspires to be a veterinarian following college. As a freshman in 2015, Klaevemann was selected to the All-ACC Academic Team.
On the field, Klaevemann has been an important catalyst to the Seminole success in 2016. Currently leading the team and the conference with 54 runs scored, the speedy slapper has also added 40 walks and 40 stolen bases to top the ACC. She is batting .368 so far on the season and has 46 hits and 11 runs batted in.
Defensively, she has commanded the outfield from centerfield, making 45 putouts and adding five defensive assists on the season, including four against ranked teams.
As an All-District First Team recipient, Klaevemann will be eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
