ATLANTA (Seminoles.com) – Florida State senior center Cierra Bravard was named to the 2011-12 Naismith Women’s Early Season Watch List on Thursday.
The watch list includes the top women’s college basketball players from 35 schools around the country and was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the 2012 Naismith Trophy will be awarded at the NCAA Women’s Final Four in Denver.
In late February, the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors will compile a mid-season team of the top 30 players in the nation. Then in March, the Naismith Trophy voting academy will vote to narrow the list to the four finalists.
Bravard, a 2010-11 All-ACC First Team selection and an honorable mention All-American, leads FSU in scoring (17.4 ppg) and field goal shooting (53.9 percent) this season.
She has reached double figures in scoring in 29 consecutive games and recorded her first double-double of the season on Wednesday night at Ohio State, tallying 27 points and 12 boards.
A 2011-12 preseason All-America and All-ACC honoree, Bravard is also a member of the Wooden Award and Wade Award Watch Lists.
She is one of six ACC players on the Naismith Watch List, joining Miami’s Shenise Johnson and Riquna Williams, Maryland’s Lynetta Kizer and Alyssa Thomas, and Duke’s Chelsea Gray.
