TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Florida State’s Nanette Duxin won the Roberta Alison Fall Tennis Classic A flight championship on Sunday, September 20, at the University of Alabama.
Duxin, unseeded in the tournament, battled through the bracket defeating the No. 2 seed Kristy Blumberg of Vanderbilt in the semifinals 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 and the No. 1 seed Kristen Radford, Vanderbilt, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the finals.
“Nanette showed mental toughness throughout the tournament after having a rough week on the court leading into the tournament,” said head coach Lise Gregory.
Florida State’s Jessica Balbuena won her first three matches before losing the B flight finals to Vanderbilt’s Stacy Ryan 6-3, 6-2.
In the A flight doubles competition, FSU’s Ali Weber and Kia Asberg teamed for the runner-up title. Asberg and Weber defeated the team of Annie Plessinger and Kristen Radford, seeded No. 2, in the semifinals before falling 8-3 in the finals to Vanderbilt’s Blumberg and Kate Burson.
“We had excellent results in the entire tournament and this tournament shows our overall team depth,” added Gregory.
