TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The Florida State men’s golf team, which is ranked No. 15 in the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ pre-season poll, opens its 2007 fall season at the seventh annual Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, Sept. 10-11. The event includes six teams ranked in the nation’s top-15 and five former tournament champions: Florida (2002, 2005), South Carolina (2000), Kentucky (2004), Southern Cal (2006) and UCLA (2003). The Seminoles finished in ninth place in the event in 2006 and are participating in the event for the third time in the seven-year history of the event.

No. 15 Florida State is joined by No. 4 Florida, Indiana, Kent State, Kentucky, No. 19 Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Southern Cal, No. 11 Texas A&M, Texas Christian, Toledo, UNC Greensboro and No. 12 UNLV in the 2007 Inverness Intercollegiate. The event will be played at the par-71, 7255-yard Inverness Club.
RANKING THE SEMINOLES
Florida State is ranked 15th and three Seminoles – senior All-American Jonas Blixt, junior All-American Matt Savage and true freshman Drew Kittleson – are ranked among the nation’s top 50 individual golfers in the preseason GolfWeek / Nike poll. The Seminoles finished the 2006-07 season ranked 15th in the final national rankings by GolfStat, in a tie for 13th place in the NCAA Championship finals, in fifth at the NCAA East Regional Championship and in a tie for fourth at the ACC Championship as it enjoyed their most successful season in more than a decade. The Seminoles had two players – Blixt and Savage – earn All-America, All-Southeast Regional and All-ACC honors as the team earned seven top-five team finishes and returned to the national elite under fourth-year Head Coach Trey Jones.
BLIXT NAMED TO GCAA SCHOLAR ATHLETE TEAM
Senior Jonas Blixt was named to the 2007 Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar Athlete Team by the Golf Coaches’ Association of America for his outstanding work in the classroom. It marks the second consecutive season Blixt has earned All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Blixt, a multi-national business operations major, was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second-Team in 2007.
SEMINOLES’ JONES ON NATIONAL BOARD
Seminole men’s golf coach Trey Jones is in his third season on the national advisory board of the Golf Coaches’ Association of America. He serves on the board as the Division I Director for the East Region. The GCAA is the professional association of men’s golf coaches.
SEMINOLES FINISH WELL AT THE 2006 INVERNESS INGERCOLLEGIATE
Matt Savage finished tied for 20th in the individual standings to lead the Seminole men’s golf team to a ninth place finish at the 2006 Inverness Intercollegiate. Savage and Jonas Blixt (tied for 29th) both earned top 30 individual finishes in leading the Seminoles to a top-10 team finish. Savage played well in the second and third rounds of the event as he carded identical scores of 75 and finished with a three-round total of 229. Southern California rallied from eight strokes down entering the third round to defeat TCU and win the team championship.
