TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The nationally-ranked Florida State men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for the 2010 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships Monday, Nov. 22.
As two of the premier programs in the country, the Seminoles head north not only looking to continue what has been a fantastic season thus far but also make some noise on the national level and possibly bring home a national championship or two.
FSU received high rankings in the final coaches poll released Nov. 16. The women’s team is currently ranked No. 2 and are given the best chance to upset defending-champion Villanova. The women are chasing their first national title after finishing as the national runner-up a season ago.
“This is what we have trained for all year long,” FSU head coach Karen Harvey said. “I really saw how ready we are at our final workout. This team is by far better than everything we have ever had. We just have to go out there and show everyone just how much we want this.”
The men slipped to No. 11 nationally after they rested two of their top runners at South Regionals and finished second while in Birmngham, Ala. The FSU men are looking to make history as they try to match or beat the 1981 squad’s eighth-place finish.
“This has a chance to be our best team ever,” FSU men’s coach Bob Braman said. “I think we are able to do things other men’s teams at FSU have not been able to do in the past. This team really is a top-10 kind of team and they are focused on that.”
