TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The NCAA announced the field of 64 teams who will each compete in four-team regionals with winners of each advancing to a Super Regional with a best-of-three format for a berth in the 2003 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
Florida State is the No. 1 national seed and will be the top-seed at the NCAA Regional in Tallahassee. FSU will play fourth-seeded Jacksonville (32-28), while No. 2 seed South Alabama (40-17) will play third seeded Rutgers (36-20) starting Friday in Tallahassee. Game times have been set at 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. EDT on Friday. The three games on Saturday will begin at 11:00, 3:00 and 7:00, and Sunday’s game is scheduled for 1:30.
The NCAA Regional in Tallahassee is paired with the NCAA Regional in Austin, Texas hosted by the University of Texas. Texas (43-17) is the No. 1 seed in the regional and will play 4th seeded Bucknell (27-14) in the first round. Arkansas (34-20) is the No. 2 in the regional at Austin and will play third seeded Lamar (37-16).
The winner of the regional in Tallahassee and the regional in Austin will meet in the Super Regional, and the NCAA committee will make Super Regional announcements following regional play next Monday.
The top eight national seeds, which generally get top consideration when hosts of Super Regionals are announced, are No. 1 Florida State, No. 2 LSU, No. 3 Georgia Tech, No. 4 Auburn, No. 5 Rice, No. 6 Stanford, No. 7 Cal State Fullerton and No. 8 Miami.
Tickets for the NCAA Division I Baseball Tallahassee Regional are currently on sale right here on the official website of Florida State University Athletics www.seminoles.com. Ticket books for the tournament are $40 for reserved grandstand seats and $25 for general admission bleacher seats. Tickets will be available for walk-up sales at the Seminole Ticket Office located at Gate C of Doak Campbell Stadium Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. Tickets can also be purchased by phone on Tuesday morning at 8:30 by calling 64-Go-FSU or toll free at 888-FSU-NoLE. All tournament books are on sale now. No single game tickets will be sold until Friday morning.
