ATHENS, Ga. — The No. 24 Florida State softball team is set to open NCAA Division I Softball Championship play Friday in Athens, Ga. against Radford.

Coming off their second Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game in as many seasons, the Seminoles (43-16) play in Georgia after hosting a regional last season.

Friday’s matchup with Radford (36-15) will mark the fourth meeting ever between the two programs. FSU is 3-0 all-time against Radford. The Seminoles are also 2-0 against Elon, who will take on host No. 9 Georgia at 5 p.m.

Florida State’s journey to Athens marks the second time this season that the team will play on the Bulldogs’ campus. The ‘Noles came away with a 4-3 win on March 24 against Georgia and are 6-5 in 11 meetings with the SEC school.

The familiarity with UGA’s campus also extends to the postseason as FSU played in the Athens Regional in 2006. The Seminoles advanced out of that regional before playing in a Super Regional in Tempe, Az.

Overall, FSU is 46-48 in NCAA Championship play, including 40-32 in regional play.
