NCAA Waiver Granted for Chatrice White

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – The Florida State Women’s Basketball program received some tremendous news from the NCAA on Friday as former All-Big Ten standout center Chatrice White has been granted immediate eligibility for the upcoming 2016-17 season. Instead of entering her redshirt sophomore year having to sit out with two years of eligibility remaining, she now has the same amount of years remaining as a junior. The native of Shelby, Neb., will participate with FSU beginning with its first official practice on Monday, Oct. 3. She can now engage in season-long competition right away, beginning with FSU’s season opener on Friday, Nov. 11, vs. Jacksonville State.

“Chatrice brings so many great elements to our team and to have her play immediately gives us even more versatility,” FSU head coach Sue Semrau said. “It adds to our low post game and gives us an enormous amount of depth. We’re excited for her and ready to get her started this season.”

Known as one of the more versatile centers in the nation at 6-foot-3, White did a little bit of everything with Illinois in her freshman and sophomore seasons. She earned second-team All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore, leading the Big Ten with 18 double-doubles. That figure would be a single-season record at Florida State.

As a sophomore, White was one of three student-athletes who finished in the Top 10 in the Big Ten in scoring (18.7 points) and rebounding (9.3 rebounds). One of her signature moments in the season was a 35-point, 11-rebound performance against Michigan.

As a freshman she averaged 14.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, earning All-Big Ten Freshman Team honors and being named to the conference’s honorable mention team.

White will work alongside FSU veterans Kai James and Ama Degbeon for playing time in the post.

She has another skill set in her ability to shoot the long-range ball. In her two years with the Illini she made 56 3-point field goals.

White also has another exciting venture ahead – she will be participating in the FIBA 3X3 World Championship held Oct. 11-15 in Guangzhou, China. Her first games will occur on Tuesday, Oct. 11, with matchups vs. Italy at 5:40 a.m. EST and Japan at 9 a.m. EST.
