The Seminoles played their best golf of the tournament in the final round led by Negron’s 69 – the best single round score of the year for the Seminoles.

The Cavaliers led the team competition wire-to-wire to win the championship and finished as the top placing of the six ACC teams in the event. Emilie Berger of Georgia overtook Brittany Atomare of Virginia in the final round to win the individual championship. Berger outscored Atomare by three strokes (69-72) in the in the third round to earn medalist honors by one stroke.

Negron (Ocala, Fla.) played her best round of the year as she carded five birdies and 16 holes at par or better to finish with a 3 under par score of 69. After a slow start (she was one over after her first two holes) in the round which was played mostly in the rain, Negron went on a tear as she carded four birdies on her next seven holes to move to three under par. She closed her round at four under par over the course of her final 16 holes.

The score of 69 for Negron was just one stroke off of her career best score of 68 (at the Cougar Classic during the fall of 2009) and her tournament score of 217 was just three strokes off of her career best of 214 (at the Lady Gator Invitational during the spring of 2010). Negron finished as the Seminoles’ leader for the fourth consecutive tournament and for the fourth time in five events this spring.

“I thought my ball striking today was excellent,” said Negron. “My ball striking set me up for a lot of birdie opportunities which I was able to convert. This was a very positive finish for me and I am more excited than ever about our upcoming events.”

Seminole head coach Amy Bond agreed with Negron’s assessment of her play in Sunday’s final round.

“Jess played great and this finish in this field should do wonders for her confidence” said Bond. “This should really help our mental approach for our tournament in Jacksonville and moving forward to the ACC Championships.”

Sophomore Laure Castelain (Bordeaux, France) played the second best round of golf for the Seminoles in the third round as she carded a 3 over par score of 75. Her third round score was her best of the tournament and helped her finish with a 229 total for the event. Castelain carded two birdies to bring her tournament total to five and scored 13 of her 18 holes at par or better on the final day.

Senior Mary Beth Ramsay (Orlando, Fla.) played her best round of the tournament as she matched her score of 77 from the second round to close the tournament. She has now played in a career high six tournaments in this her final season as a member of the Seminole women’s golf team.

“We got better each day which is a positive for this team” said Bond. “This was a good eye opening tournament for all of us to see just how much work we still have to do. We have to get back to the practice range and get ready for April. This is an exciting time of the year for our team and we are looking forward to getting better and competing against some great teams.”

The Seminoles will see action next at the Marsh Landing Invitational in Ponte Vedra, Fla., April 8-9. The Seminole’s event at the Marsh Landing Country Club is their final regular season event before they being postseason play at the ACC Championship Tournament at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., April 19-21.
