Florida State University freshman Jessica Negron shot a one over par score of 73 and is in a tie for 12th place in the individual standings and the No. 26 ranked Seminole women’s golf team is in 13th place after the first round of the 2010 Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Coco Beach Resort.
No. 10 ranked Georgia holds the team lead after the first round after the Bulldogs finished the first round with a 292 team score. The Bulldogs counted four scores at 76 or better in the first round. Purdue’s Thea Hoffmeister, playing as an individual, is the individual leader after the first round after carding a six under par 66.
Negron led the Seminoles with her one-over par score in the first round. She was followed by junior Macarena Silva (78; tie for 44th place) and senior Lacey Agnew (79, tied for 50th place) which helped the Seminoles place three players in the top 50 of the individual standings.
Negron earned three top 20 individual finishes during the fall season – her first as a Seminole. She finished in a career-best 16th place in the Cougar Classic – the first event of her collegiate career. Negron’s score of 73 in the first round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic is the third best of her career behind only a 68 in the Cougar Classic and a 71 in the Eat A Peach Invitational.
The second round of the event is will be played Monday with the tournament concluding Tuesday.
