Newcomer Note #2 – Alycia Williams
On Thursday, August 25, I drove over from Palm Coast, Fla. (by Daytona) to move into my new place. I had a lot of stuff to bring with me so my parents drove this big van we always use for big trips. We got to Tallahassee and my dad helped me unpack while my mom sprayed everything with Lysol and cleaned and bleached my entire room. She made the bed and everything. My sister was supposed to help but she didn’t make it in time. My best friend is one of my roommates so we went to get her stuff and move it in before we headed to Ruby Tuesday’s.
I went and got my physical on Friday morning (August 26). I got there around 7:40ish and left around 11:00 a.m. It took forever.

On Monday, I went to register and still needed to take care of some health stuff. I went running around campus again to get some more paperwork taken care of so I could get into class. I finally got to register for classes
My first class – Article and Essay Workshop – was fun and interesting. The teacher was cool. He told a story about how he thought he was getting pulled over for one thing and it was something totally different (something about a neighbor registering fake addresses). In between classes, I watched my sister work out in the weight room and then headed off for more school.

Newcomer Note #1 – Greg Bolden
I drove down here mid-afternoon from Albany, Ga., on Friday, August 19. I was real anxious to leave and get down here. It took an hour and a half. I moved in that day with Tywayne (Buchanon) and am expecting Jaheed (Smith) to arrive pretty soon. I drove to Wal-Mart to get some food after unpacking the car since there was nothing in the fridge. Mainly, I’ve been hanging out getting to know everybody. (Assistant coach) Ken (Harnden) introduced me to some of my new teammates and we went out with them for the first night. In that group were Cedric (Nabe), Rashaad (Curry) and Elliott (Wood). Tywayne’s been cooking some real good food for all of us. One night, he made some tilapia and rice for dinner.
I knew Ronald before because I interned in Baltimore with Baltimore Gas and Electric and ran against him in AAU summer track.

Another thing that Tywayne and I did was go to the Caribbean Festival at Kleman Plaza. We heard about it on the radio so we went down there to dance and get some food.
All week I’ve been getting to know the campus and Tallahassee. I met up with another new teammate Ronald (Wright) and we went to FAMU, the mall and all around campus. We opened bank accounts and went bowling some people that we met while you were hanging out in the Union.
I knew Ronald before because I interned in Baltimore with Baltimore Gas and Electric and ran against him in AAU summer track. We were rivals. I didn’t know him but I’ve probably known of him for three or four years.
The last thing I did this week was go through FSU’s orientation. It was tiring because we had to start at 8:00 a.m. and the night before our complex had a welcoming party so we ate, swam and hung out with neighbors all day long. They talked about financial services, academic advising and the school. A lot of the stuff we were familiar with because we went through the same thing at my other school. I went with Ronald and after that we stopped in to get football coupons.
