NFL Combine Preview: Nine Noles In Indy

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Derwin James’ career path has been clear for several years: First a five-star prospect, then a collegiate star and, finally, a first-round draft pick.

With the first two boxes checked, James will take a big step toward the third when he participates in the annual NFL scouting combine this week in Indianapolis. James, an All-America safety, is one of nine former Florida State standouts invited to the combine, which begins in earnest with the first on-field workouts on Friday. Cornerback Tarvarus McFadden, defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi, defensive end Josh Sweat, linebackers Matthew Thomas and Jacob Pugh, tight end Ryan Izzo, receiver Auden Tate and offensive lineman Rick Leonard are the others.

That brings FSU’s all-time total of combine participants to 235.

While James is universally considered to be the top prospect of the bunch, the combine – which includes interviews with team personnel and the infamous Wonderlic intelligence test – will provide each player an opportunity to boost his stock ahead of April’s draft.

The combine is televised exclusively by the NFL Network and live results can be found at NFL.com. Check back with Seminoles.com for a full round-up of results and reaction after the FSU prospects have completed their time in Indianapolis.
