TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
Florida State University sophomore Wickus Nienaber was named Atlantic Coast Conference Swimmer of the Week Monday afternoon by the conference office. Nienaber, who hails from Simugye, Swaziland, won all four events he competed in last Friday against nationally ranked No. 16 Alabama.
Nienaber was the Seminoles’ top swimmer in the breaststroke events, winning both the 100-yard and 200-yard competitions. In the 100-yard event, Nienaber won with a time of 56.31, which is the third-best mark in the ACC this season. He then won the 200-yard breast at 2:02.74, which ranks as the fifth-best time in the ACC.
The Seminoles also won the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays, which Nienaber played an important role. In the 200 medley relay, Nienaber swam the second leg as the Tribe touched the wall with the top time in the ACC at 1:31.34. He also swam the second leg of the 200 free relay that won with the second-best time in the ACC at 1:21.92.
Nienaber and the Seminoles will return to action on Saturday, February 2, when they travel to Baton Rouge, La. to take on LSU and Louisiana-Monroe.
