Niks, Braswell Lead Seminoles to Victory

TALLAHASSEE, FL — For the second consecutive year, the Florida State men’s tennis team opened their dual match season with a win against Stetson.

Florida State won 5-2 by capturing four of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches over the Hatters. No.1 singles player Yvo Niks started his pursuit of a fourth straight 20 win season with a victory over Mark Siviter 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 singles player Ty Braswell defeated Marcus Andresen 6-3, 6-2, after teaming with Davidson Kozlowski to take the No.1 doubles match, 8-2, from Mark Siviter and Libor Sedivak.

Sophomore sensations Chad Mooney (No.5) and Gerald Casas (No.6) compiled the other two singles victories for the Seminoles. The other doubles victory came from the team of Yvo Niks and Chad Mooney at No. 2. The Seminoles played without teammate Steve Weinstein, who was expected to be a key contributor to this years team, but who is out indefinitely with a back injury.

The Seminoles will next see action this weekend at the ACC Indoors in Winston- Salem, NC. Their next home match will be Friday, January 29th, against Jacksonville University.
