    The Seminoles: Top-ranked Florida State (29-3, 9-0 ACC) host Mercer
    (19-12) for a single-game midweek challenge. The second game of the series
    scheduled for Wednesday, March 31st at 6:00 p.m., has been cancelled due to
    lack of rainouts.

  • FSU has won 15 straight games and has a consensus No. 1 ranking by
    Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America, and Baseball Weekly/ESPN. In fact,
    the 40 voting coaches gave the Seminoles every first-place vote in this
    week’s Baseball Weekly/ESPN Top 25.

  • 2B Marshall McDougall is riding a 23-game hitting streak in which he is
    batting .410 (41-for-100) with 34 RBI.

  • RF Matt Diaz has hit safely in 13 of the last 15 games and is batting
    .411 (28-for-68) with 21 RBI during that span. He has hit safely in 28 of
    32 games this year.

  • C Jeremiah Klosterman is riding a 16-game hitting streak and is batting
    .426 (23-for-54) with 15 RBI during that span.

  • 1B John Halliday is day-to-day with a groin injury and will most likely
    return for the Wake Forest series on Friday.

  • FSU is batting .330, has hit 49 home runs while averaging 9.1 runs per

  • The Seminole pitching staff has posted a 2.67 ERA and opponents are
    batting just .215 against FSU. The staff is averaging 10.1 strikeouts per

    Series Information: The Seminoles lead the 53-8 in the longest
    running series on the FSU schedule. The two teams first met in the
    Seminoles inagural baseball season, 1948, in the seventh game of the
    season. FSU won 14-12 in the first clash. Last year, the Tribe defeated
    the Bears, 13-3 and 11-0, in a two-game series. Mercer RHP David D’Amico,
    who will pitch Tuesday’s game, lasted just three innings after giving upp
    five runs on three hits and six walks in the first game.

    Scouting the Opponent: Mercer enters the game with a 19-12 record and
    riding a six-game winning streak. The Bears are batting .336 as a team,
    but have a 5.97 team ERA. RHP David D’Amico (3-3, 5.65 ERA) is slated to
    start Tuesday’s game. Greg Schmidt leads Mercer with a .416 average, 6 HR
    and 31 RBI, while Bradon Blair has a .364 average, 7 HR and 33 RBI.
