No. 1 FSU Faces Fullerton & Arkansas This Weekend

Game Notes – Week 4 vs Fullerton & Arkansas

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After a successful week as the No. 1 team in the nation following wins over No. 22 Florida and the College of Charleston, the Seminoles (4-0-0) will look to remain undefeated and stay atop the polls with matches against Cal State Fullerton (1-4-0) and Arkansas (3-2-0) this weekend.

Florida State concludes its three-game home stand when they host the Titans on Friday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m. in game shown live on ESPN3. Friday’s match marks the first meeting between both teams and the third of four first time opponents the Seminoles will face in 2012.

The Seminoles then travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to face the Arkansas Razorbacks on Sunday, September 9 at 2:00 p.m. ET. FSU is 1-0-0 all-time against Arkansas, but it’s the first meeting between the two schools in Fayetteville. The Seminoles won the very first meeting in 2010, a 1-0 overtime victory in Tallahassee. Tori Huster scored the golden goal just 19 seconds into the first overtime to give the Garnet & Gold the 1-0 victory.

Arkansas is the second and final team from the Southeastern Conference that FSU will face during the regular season in 2012. The Seminoles own an all-time record of 25-17-3 against the SEC, including a mark of 10-4-1 under head coach Mark Krikorian.

Heading into Friday’s match against Cal State Fullerton, Florida State has posted three straight shutouts for the first time since 2010 when the Seminoles put together a streak of three consecutive shutouts against Arkansas (1-0), Miami (2-0) and Wake Forest (1-0). After giving up two goals in the first six minutes and 32 seconds of the season opener at Minnesota, the Seminoles have not allowed a goal since – a span covering 353:28.

After posting back-to-back shutouts over Florida and College of Charleston, Florida State improved its position atop the NSCAA top 25 poll receiving 32 of 33 first place votes. FSU is 7-1-0 all-time when ranked No. 1.
