TALLAHASSEE, FL — The No. 1 seeded Maryland Terrapins advanced tonight in the ACC Softball Championships, eliminating No. 5 Georgia Tech 7-0 at the Seminole Softball Complex. Maryland improves to 48-20 as Georgia ends their season 22-38.
“Our pitching was great. Out hitting was great. I couldn’t have asked for anything more tonight,” Maryland Head Gina LaMandre said. “We are looking forward to working hard tomorrow and continuing to play well.”
The Terrapins took a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning when Courtney Medea hit a double to bring in Michelle Burrell. Kelly Shipman added a single RBI and Burrell had a sacrifice fly in the 5th inning as the Terrapins scored four in the 6th inning to take the 7-0 win. Shipman and Amanda Battker shared the no-hitter with Mimi Utt taking the loss for the Yellow Jackets.
“We struggled at the plate tonight and got beat by Shipman for the third time this season,” Yellow Jackets Head Coach Kate Madden said. “I was proud that our team fought back today and reached this far in the tournament after not playing very well the last couple of weeks.”
The Maryland Terrapins will face Virginia at Noon on Sunday in game 7 to determine who will face Florida State in the possible championship game at 3:30pm which will be a taped delay game on the Sunshine Network. If the Lady Seminoles lose game 8, game 9 will become the championship game at 6:00pm and will be live on Sunshine.
