RALEIGH, NC – Right-hander Nick Stocks fanned a career-high 12 batters in a 2-1 pitcher’s duel as he led No. 1 Florida State (23-3, 5-0 ACC) to a victory over against No. 19 North Carolina State (20-5, 2-3 ACC) in front of 2,097 fans at Doak Field. Stocks’ (7-0) 12 strikeouts matched his career-high which set in action against Virginia last week. He scattered five hits and walked three in eight innings pitched for FSU.
First baseman John Halliday walked and scored on a basehit to centerfield by catcher Jeremiah Klosterman in the second inning. Klosterman extended his hitting streak to a career-high 11 games with the single.
Rightfielder Matt Diaz led off the sixth inning with a double to left field and came home on a basehit by designated-hitter Sam Scott giving the Seminoles a 2-0 advantage.
Wolfpack right-hander Rodney Ormond (3-1) took the loss for NC State despite striking out eight batters and holding the Seminoles to two runs on six hits. Ormond walked two in his seven inning outing. Left-handed reliever Mike DiBlasi gave up his first run of the season in the ninth inning on a hit andtwo walks and was relieved by right-hander Chris Chavez who earned his first save of the season by retiring the final two batters of the game.
