No. 12 Seminoles And Wolfpack Play To Scoreless Tie

Oct. 14, 2000

RALEIGH, NC –
The 12th ranked Seminole soccer team (10-4-1) extended its school record unbeaten streak to six games with a 0-0 double overtime tie at NC State (8-5-2) Saturday afternoon. The scoreless draw marks FSU’s fifth shutout of the season and moved the Seminoles into a fifth place tie in the ACC. It was the first time FSU has been shutout in the 2000 season.

“We really battled today,” said head coach Patrick Baker. “It’s tough to play on the road in the ACC. We were able to defend well but we didn’t capitalize on our chances”

The Wolfpack and Seminoles both had opportunities to break on top throughout the first half. Wolfpack senior Shannon Tully hit the crossbar from 25 yards out on a free kick and each team recorded four shots on goal through the first 45 minutes.

The Seminoles controlled play through the first part of the second half and first overtime period but were unable to finish. Florida State finished the game with 10 shots on goal and 18 total shots for the match.

“We should have done better considering we had a week to prepare for this game,” said Baker. “We need to remember that we didn’t lose this game and we still have some important games ahead of us and we’ll be fine. It would have been great to play for 90 minutes, get a goal and head home with a win but everything is happening for a reason for us this year.”

Senior Sarah Crawford and the Seminole defense recorded their fifth shutout of the season and Crawford kept the Seminoles in the game with her nine saves. Saturday’s shutout gives Crawford 6.5 career shutouts and moves her within one shutout of the school’s all-time record (7.5).

“Sarah has been playing extremely well for us all season but especially over the last two weeks,” said goalkeeper coach John Galas. “This is her third shutout in a row and she is stepping up to the challenge week in and week out.”

Florida State returns to the Seminole Soccer Complex Tuesday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m. to face the third-ranked and defending national champion North Carolina Tarheels. The Seminoles enter the match with a 7-1 record at home and have won their last three games at the Soccer Complex.
