No. 13/17 Florida State Men’s Tennis Hosts Saturday Doubleheader

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 13/17 ranked Florida State men’s tennis team (10-1) is home for a doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 10 after defeating No. 8 Florida 4-3 in Lake Nona as part of the College MatchDay event. The Seminoles take on Florida A&M at 10 a.m. and The Citadel at 3 p.m.

The Seminoles are a combined 16-0 against this weekend’s opponents including a 12-0 record against FAMU and a 4-0 record against The Citadel.

Florida State last took on the Citadel in 2016 and defeated them 6-1. The Seminoles took on FAMU last season and defeated them 4-0

Seminoles Sweep ACC Weekly Honors
Florida State grabbed a clean sweep of the ACC Honors this past week after an upset win over No. 8 Florida. Senior Guy Iradukunda earned ACC player of the Week honors after a straight-set win on court one against eighth-ranked Johannes Ingildsen 7-6 (10), 6-3 to tie the match at 3-3. He also earned a doubles win on court two against the No. 10 doubles pair in the country of Durate Vale and McClain Kessler 6-4.

Seniors Terrance and Terrell Whitehurst clinched the doubles point for the Garnet and Gold earning themselves ACC Doubles Pair of the Week honors. They took down Florida’s No. 11 ranked doubles pair of Oliver Crawford and Chase Perez-Blanco 7-6 (3).

Noles in the Polls
In the latest Oracle/ITA poll, Florida State comes in at No. 17. This marks the 14th straight week that the Noels have been ranked in the ITA Poll dating back to February 27, 2017. The Seminoles are also ranked No. 13 in the USTA poll.

The Seminoles are one of four schools to have at least seven singles players and doubles pairs ranked. They have four ranked singles players and three doubles pair. Senior Guy Iradukunda leads off the pack coming in at No. 8, redshirt senior Lucas Poullain comes in at No. 47, sophomore Alex Knaff comes in at No. 106 and junior Aziz Dougaz rounds out the pack coming in at No. 121. The duo of Jose Gracia and Lucas Poullain lead the trio of doubles pairs coming in at No. 13 in doubles. They are followed by Guy Iradukunda and Alex Knaff at No. 20 and Terrance and Terrell Whitehurst at No. 41.
