No. 15 Florida State Men’s Tennis Remains Undefeated In ACC Play With 5-2 Victory Against Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga. – The No. 15-ranked Florida State men’s tennis team used a dominant performance in singles to move to 3-0 in ACC play defeating No. 58 Georgia Tech 5-2 in Atlanta, Ga.

The Seminoles (12-5, 3-0) started out strong in singles led by sophomore Clint Bowles on court two. The 42nd-ranked player in the country quickly dispatched of the Yellow Jackets (5-6, 1-2) Kevin King 6-2, 6-2 to make the score 1-1. Senior Chris Cloer gave FSU its first lead of the day on court five defeating Doug Kenny in straight sets 6-6, 6-4. Junior Jean-Yves Aubone scored the biggest upset of the day defeating No. 11-ranked Guillermo Gomez in three sets. The 28th-ranked Aubone dropped the first set 6-3, but came back to take the second and third sets 6-3, 6-2 to put the Garnet and Gold up 3-2.

Junior Vahid Mirzadeh clinched the match for Florida State on court four. Mirzadeh won a pair of tiebreakers against Georgia Tech’s 7-6, 7-6. The Wellington, Fla., native has now won six out of his last seven matches.

In the final two matches of the afternoon senior Drew Bailey defeated Dusan Miljevic in three sets 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 on court six and senior Maciek Sykut fell to Eliot Potvin on court three 5-7, 6-2, 7-5.

For the first time in ACC play the Seminoles dropped the doubles point. Bowles and freshman Chris Reiman were defeated on court three by Muguruza and Austin Roebuck 8-3 and the Yellow Jackets clinched the point when No. 59-ranked Gomez and Ryan Smith defeated Aubone and Mirzadeh 8-6. The duo of Bailey and Sykut remained undefeated in ACC play with an 8-5 victory against Kenny and King on court two.

Florida State returns to the court on Thursday, March 12, in Malibu, Calif., against No. 14 Pepperdine. The match beings at 4:00 p.m., for live scoring and a match recap visit
