TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 16-ranked Florida State men’s tennis team will host No. 12 Florida on Tuesday, March 3, at 5:00 p.m., at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The winner will own bragging rights as the unofficial State Champion.
“It’s always a big match every year,” FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “They’ve always had the tradition and history and the last few years we’ve played a lot better. We’re looking forward to the match because our guys are so familiar with their guys.”
The Seminoles (10-4, 1-0) are coming off a 4-3 victory against another instate rival No. 24 Miami on Saturday. Senior Maciek Sykut clinched the match for the Garnet and Gold with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over Iganacio Taboada on court three. Florida State lost to Florida (8-3) last season in Gainesville, Fla., 5-2. The last time FSU defeated the Gators was in 2007, a 4-3 victory in Tallahassee.
“You can’t get too high or too low in a match like this,” Hultquist said. “Even though there is a lot of emotion you have to be able to stay balanced.”
