Tallahassee, FL –
More than anything else, the storyline for the 2003 FSU softball team has to be rainouts. The team has already lost a minimum of nine games due to inclement weather and the trend is continuing. Georgia Tech announced Thursday that Friday’s game at the 11th annual Buzz Classic have been canceled due to poor field conditions after a week of rain. The tournament will go on with pool play beginning Saturday, March 22 but there will be no championship play.
The Seminoles will now play three games Saturday and finish up with a single game Sunday. The Tribe will face the same four opponents but the game times have now been altered. Florida State opens play at 8:00 a.m. versus Princeton and then returns to action at noon against Boston University. Day one concludes with a 6:00 p.m. game against Middle Tennessee. The Seminoles wrap-up the weekend at 11:00 a.m. against Georgia State Sunday.
The 2003 FSU softball schedule has been kidnapped for long stretches by the weather. So far this season, FSU softball now has had a minimum of 11 games cancelled due to rain and weather has forced an abrupt ending to five consecutive tournaments for FSU. The cancellations started at the prestigious NFCA Leadoff Classic as the tournament was halted after pool play with FSU losing out on a minimum of two games. Then a game versus Mercer was rained out on top of two games on the opening day of the Seminole Challenge Tournament. At the 2003 Seminole Invitational, once again teams were unable to advance into bracket play due to rain and that cost FSU two more games. Finally the rain in usually dry southern California washed away FSU’s game against No. 13 Arizona State and at least one more contest. Now FSU has lost at least two more games at the Buzz Classic. The 11 cancellations were so key because they came against regional teams and ranked opponents.
