No. 16 Seminoles Enter Battle For ACC Title On Friday

May 6, 2009

RALEIGH, N.C. – With the best Atlantic Coast Conference record in 17-years as a member of the league, the No. 16/22 Seminoles (41-13/17-4) enter the fight for their first ACC title since 2004 as the No. 2 seed against No. 7-seeded Boston College at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8. Florida State is currently on a 12-game winning streak after sweeping three ACC opponents including the Eagles just last weekend.

Since 1992, Florida State has a 43-14-1 all-time record at the ACC Tournament with one tie coming against Maryland in 1997 when rain prevented the completion of the championship game. In 17 years, the Seminoles have been crowned the ACC Champions 10 times including the Co-Champion title with the Terrapins.

At last year’s event, FSU defeated BC as the No. 3 and No. 6 seeds, respectively, in nine innings of play. It was a grand slam home run by former Seminole Brittany Osmon that gave the Noles the 5-1 victory. Due to inclement weather, the tournament was turned into single-elimination and the Garnet and Gold was taken out by the 2007 and 2008 ACC Champion Virginia Tech.
