No. 16 Wake Forest Downs No. 64 Florida State, 7-0

Winston-Salem, N.C. — The No. 16 Wake Forest women’s tennis team battled through a tight doubles point and swept all six singles matches for a 7-0 victory over No. 64 Florida State Sunday afternoon. The Seminoles drop to 8-8 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

The Demon Deacons’ Sierra Poske and Christine Simpson opened up with the first doubles point, an 8-3 victory in the No. 3 position against sophomore Tapiwa Marobela and senior Alina Mihailescu. Florida State won at No. 2 (Ania Rynarzewska/Suzanna Mansour), while in the No. 1 spot Wake Forest’s Ashlee Davis and Alex Hirsch pushed their match into an exciting tiebreaker and defeated Nicole Slater and Whitney Eber, 9-8.

In singles, Davis, who is ranked No. 64, earned the first point for Wake Forest with a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the No. 2 position against Slater. Playing at No. 3, freshman Ana Jerman defeated Mihailescu, 6-3, 6-0, while Jenna Loeb clinched the match for Wake Forest with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Marbela at No. 5.

Wake’s Christian Tara earned her fifth consecutive victory of the weekend with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Mansour in the fourth position. At the top spot for Wake, Hirsch earned a close 6-1, 5-7
(10-7) win over Rynarzewska and Sierra Poske finished the sweep for the Deacs with a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 6 versus Lisa Nystrom Skold.

The Seminoles return to the court Friday when they welcome Clemson at 2 p.m.
