No. 17 Florida State Succumbs To No. 14 North Carolina

Chapel Hill, NC – No. 17 Florida State women’s tennis (11-6, 4-4) fell to No. 14 North Carolina (17-7, 5-3) at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on Friday, April 6. The Seminoles were unable to even there all-time record against the Tar Heels this weekend.

In singles, Florida State fell to North Carolina 6-0. No. 99 freshman Lauren Macfarlane (Ogden, Utah) fell to No. 6 Jenna Long 6-2, 6-2 on court one. No. 102 sophomore Ania Rynarzewska (Inowroclaw, Poland) fell in the third set to Caitlin Collins 2-6, 6-3, (10-8). Freshmen Jessica Wente (Whitehouse, Texas) lost to No. 90 Austin Smith in the four spot 7-6 (3), 6-2.

The Tar Heels swept the Seminoles 3-0 in doubles play. No. 19 Nicola Slater (Ayr, Scotland) and junior Carolin Walter (Bingen, Germany) were leading 7-4 against Collins and Sanaz Marand but North Carolina battled back to win 9-8 (7). Macfarlane and Rynarzewska battled hard in doubles but fell 8-6 to No. 50 Sara Anundsen and Katrina Tsang on court two.

The Seminoles play tomorrow, Saturday, April 7 against Duke at 11 am. Florida State returns to the Scott Speicher Tennis Center next weekend for their final home matches.
