TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – A rewarding regular season will soon be coming to a close for the 17th-ranked Florida State Men’s Golf team as it prepares for the Gary Koch Invitational held April 9-10 at Gastonia Country Club in Gastonia, N.C.
The tournament is the final one for the regular season. FSU then prepares for the ACC Tournament which is back at Old North State Club in New London, N.C., from April 20-22.
The Seminoles will be coming off a near three-week hiatus from play, with their last result being an impressive second-place finish at the competitive Valspar Collegiate on March 20.
Florida State’s starting five includes junior Corey Carlson, junior Bennett Baker, sophomore Jake Carter, sophomore Jamie Li and freshman John Pak. Sophomore Greyson Porter will also be competing individually.
Pak is coming off ACC Golfer of the Month honors for March, stringing three Top 10 finishes including a second-place spot in his last tournament at the Valspar Collegiate. Pak is ranked 16th in the latest Golfstat individual rankings, shooting a team-low 70.19 scoring average this year.
FSU will be without the services of redshirt senior All-American Harry Ellis, who is coming off a hefty workload that included winning the Georgia Cup against Clemson’s Doc Redman followed by his first-ever appearance at The Masters. Ellis will finish the collegiate season before setting his sights on the 118th U.S. Open held at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club from June 14-17.
Also included in the Gary Koch Invitational field is 28th-ranked Kentucky, No. 11 Auburn, No. 34 Ole Miss, No. 45 Virginia, Georgia Southern, Lamar, Coastal Carolina, Jacksonville State and Western Carolina.
