TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — After taking the first game 1-0, the No. 17 Florida
State softball team erupted for 13 hits in game two and defeated Youngstown
State 10-2 and extended its win streak to 14 games while improving to 34-12
on the season. The Lady Penguins fall to 1-12 on the year.
Pitching ace Jennifer White improved her record to 24-7 with a two-hit
win in game one. White struck out eight and walked no one in seven innings
of work. She also recorded the game-winning RBI with a single to center in
the fourth inning which scored Misty Molin.
Corrie Williams’ two-out home run in the third inning of game two
increased the Tribe’s lead to 8-2. It was Williams’ second blast of the
season. She had four RBIs in the contest. FSU scored two more runs in the
sixth inning with two out off of a Tami Post double, giving the Tribe an
eight-run lead and the game was called. Post had two hits in the game and
drove in three runs. Junior pitcher Stacy Venable picked up the complete
game victory and improved to 8-4.
Florida State will compete in the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic this weekend
in Marietta, Ga. The Lady Seminoles will face Wright State (1 p.m.) and
Georgia State (8 p.m.) on Friday and Indiana State (12:30 p.m.) and Utah
(5:30 p.m.) on Saturday before bracket play begins.
