No. 18 Florida State Overpowers Virginia Tech 7-0

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – No. 18 Florida State (11-5, 4-3) shut out Virginia Tech (10-10, 0-6) 7-0 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on Sunday, April 1. The Seminoles won their 11th doubles point of the season.

In singles, No. 95 freshman Lauren Macfarlane (Ogden, Utah) fought a battle and came out with a victory over Igna Beerman 6-2, 6-7(4-7), 10-4 in the one spot. On court two was No. 76 senior Nicola Slater (Ayr, Scotland) who won 6-4, 6-4 against Jessica Long. No. 77 Ania Rynarzewska (Inowroclaw, Poland) fought in three sets and came out with a victory in the three spot against Ashley James 6-0, 3-6, 11-9.

Junior Carolin Walter (Bingen, Germany) faced J.J. Larson on court four and came out with a win 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Jessica Wente won her 14th singles match of the season with a 6-3, 6-0 success over Abbey Walker. Rounding out the Seminoles in the sixth position was junior Tapiwa Marobela (Gaborone, Botswana) winning 6-1, 6-2 over Jessica Brouwer.

The Seminoles swept the Hokies 3-0 in doubles for the point. Heading off the courts first was senior Miranda Foley (Cambridge, England) and Wente 8-3 over Brouwer/Walker. The No. 29 duo of Slater and Walter won 8-1 verses Beerman/Larson. Macfarlane and Rynarzewska won the final match 8-3 against James/Long.

The Seminoles travel to North Carolina on Friday, April 6 and to Duke on Saturday, April 7. Florida State returns to Tallahassee on April 13 and 15 for the final home matches of the season.
