#19 FLORIDA STATE (6-5)
FSU improved to 6-5 with a two-game sweep of Appalachian State on Tuesday (10-4) and Wednesday (7-4). The Seminoles took a charter bus to Melbourne immediately following Wednesday’s game for a Thursday exhibition with the Florida Marlins. Freshman LHP Trent Peterson threw well against the Marlins in his first career start, pitching two scoreless innings and allowing just one hit. Florida went on to win the game 7-0 at their spring training home. Ryan Barthelemy (1B) is starting to heat up offfensively, with a home run in three of the last four games. John-Ford Griffin (LF) continues to lead the team with a .444 batting average and an RBI total of 15.
MICHIGAN STATE (0-2)
The Spartans went 20-36 in 2000 and are 0-2 on the 2001 season after losing a pair of one-run games at Troy State. MSU is led by OF Bob Malek, who hit .345 last year with nine home runs and 58 RBI.
Florida State leads the all-time series 9-6, which dates back to 1957. The two teams last played in 1975 with each school winning one game. Major League All-Star and Gold Glove winner Danny Litwhiler, who coached at FSU from 1955-1963 and at MSU from 1963-93, will be in attendance Saturday.
