TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – To be the best you have to play the best and that is just what the Florida State volleyball team has done through 11 games this season.

While the NCAA will not release its first of three Division I RPI rankings until mid-October, Rich Kern has created a basic formula that emulates those rankings and the Seminoles have made quite a splash.

In the Sept. 21 release of the RKPI Rankings, Florida State is slotted as the No. 2 team in the nation – just a few points behind the No. 1 team, Texas – with 0.7426184 points. The stellar ranking also signifies that FSU thus far has the highest RPI of any team in the East Region.

“We certainly every year want to build a schedule that will not only help us be successful but also have a high RPI,” FSU head coach Chris Poole said. “As a staff, we worked really hard last spring to make a schedule that will allow us to play good teams. Of course we can make the toughest schedule possible and it won’t matter if the girls don’t work hard.

“But they have done a great job this year and that is why we are in this position.”
