TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – The Florida State baseball team received their second pre-season top 25 ranking of the year as Baseball America has the Seminoles ranked No. 20 to open the 2012 campaign.

The Seminoles are one of five schools out of the Atlantic Coast Conference ranked in Baseball America’s pre-season top 25 poll. Also, five of FSU’s opponents on this year’s schedule will open the year ranked including No. 1 Florida, Georgia Tech (No. 12), Clemson (No. 16), Miami (No. 18) and UCF (No. 21).

Florida State was picked No. 13 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s pre-season top 40 which was released back in December.

FSU returns 19 players from last year’s squad that advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals. The Seminoles welcome back all four starting infielders in Jayce Boyd, Devon Travis, Justin Gonzalez and Sherman Johnson. James Ramsey and Seth Miller return as starters in the outfield for the Garnet & Gold, while Ramsey will be slotted as the `Noles starting centerfielder in 2012. Seniors Hunter Scantling and Brian Busch will pace the Seminoles on the mound.

There are plenty of new faces looking to contribute in 2012 as the Seminoles welcome 17 newcomers including 16 freshmen and one junior college transfer. This year’s incoming class, which was ranked 16th-nationally by Collegiate Baseball, is made up of seven pitchers including five left handers, two infielders, two outfielders, two catchers and four utility players.

Florida State opens the season with a three-game home stand against the Hofstra Pride beginning Friday, February 17.
