The 20th-ranked Seminole softball team is coming off one of the biggest regular season weekends in recent memory. Florida State advanced to the semifinals of the Kia Klassic Tournament in Fullerton, CA by downing three ranked opponents (#6 Oklahoma, #13 Washington and #14 DePaul). The Tribe advanced further into championship play than No. 2 Arizona, No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 10 Fresno State, No. 13 Washington, No. 14 DePaul and No. 18 Louisiana-Lafayette and came up just one game short of the championship match. It was a do or die situation almost the entire weekend and FSU stepped up to the challenge.
After a mid-week doubleheader with Maine, the Garnet and Gold head to Atlanta for their last tournament before the post-season. The Buzz Classic should feel very familiar to the Seminoles since it is hosted by ACC foe Georgia Tech and since four of the five ACC schools who play softball will be there (Georgia Tech, FSU, Maryland and North Carolina). The Seminoles were placed in Pool 2 with Campbell, UNC Greensboro, Ohio State, Princeton and UCF.
