Final Stats

MIAMI, Fla. – The No. 22 Florida State volleyball team won its second of two games at the FIU/Miami Invitational Saturday night with a four-set (24-26, 25-21, 25-17, 25-12) victory over host Florida International.

Earlier in the day, the Seminoles (7-1) swept Middle Tennessee State.

“I am very proud of the team for what they did today,” FSU head coach Chris Poole said. “These were both very good teams that should be in the NCAA Tournament at season’s end.”

FSU had its back against the wall early as the Eagles (7-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 26-24 victory in the first set.

The FIU win to start the match put an end to an impressive nine-set FSU winning streak. The Seminoles had an answer, though, as they started another streak by closing out FIU with three-straight wins.

For the match, senior outside hitter Mira Djuric guided the ‘Noles with a season-high in both kills (16) and hitting percentage (.433). Defensively she contributed seven blocks and four digs.

Senior Brianna Barry also had a season-high in kills with 12 while Stephanie Neville and Rachael Morgan had 10 and eight, respectively. True freshman Fatma Yildirim had a career-best 13 digs.

Nikki Baker’s 28 assists were her best of the season and Duygu Duzceler registered 19 of her own.

“We started a little slow but made a few adjustments after we lost the first game, Poole said. “Our block and quick attack then took over.”

The Seminoles will now face Albany NY on Sunday at noon to finish off their trip to South Florida.
