#24 Florida State (4-3)


Florida State remained at No. 24 in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches poll after after taking two games from Jacksonville last weekend. Senior right-hander Eddie Cannon (2-0) was impressive in his last start as he tied a career-high with nine strikeouts and only allowed one hit in six scoreless innings of work. Cannon is also holding opponents to a .095 batting average. Senior Bryan Zech leads the team with a .440 average and is followed by third baseman Gibbs Chapman (.400). Eddy Martinez-Esteve and Derrick Smith are tied for the team lead with three home runs apiece while Stephen Drew has two.

Oral Roberts (3-0)


Oral Roberts, who earned an NCAA Tournament bid last year, opened its 2004 season last weekend with a three-game sweep of Missouri Southern. First baseman Boomer Welles leads the team with a .455 average while Josh Lex and Jeff Tuttle each recorded two home runs in the opening series. The Golden Eagles defeated Missouri Southern by scores of 13-0, 10-1 and 11-1. Dennis Bigley, who is the No. 1 starter in the rotation as well as a DH and first baseman, only allowed one hit with four strikeouts in 6.0 IP in the opener. He went 2-for-4 with four RBI in the Sunday game while playing first base.
