TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – The 25th-ranked Florida State Men’s Golf Team heads to the competitive OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational for the 12th consecutive year. Play begins on Friday at Olympia Fields Country Club, with tee times set for 8:30 AM ET.
The tournament will once again last for three days and includes some of the nation’s top teams alongside FSU. They include Air Force, Alabama, Baylor, California, Illinois, Indiana, UNLV, Oklahoma State, Purdue, USC, South Carolina, Stanford and Texas A&M.
The famous Olympia Fields Country Club has been home to many prestigious events, including the 2015 U.S. Amateur, two U.S. Opens, three PGA Championships, give Western Opens and a U.S. Senior Open.
The Seminoles will send their same starting five from last week’s Rod Myers Invitational, where they finished fourth as a team. Sophomore John Pak finished first by a long shot at 13-under, winning the tournament easily after shooting a course-record 62 in his opening round of the fall.
Senior Corey Carlson started his fall in a positive manner, tying for 17th and shooting an even-par 216 at Duke Country Club. He finished among the tournament’s best on par 5 holes, with an average score of 4.50 and a birdie percentage of 58.3 percent.
Juniors Jamie Li, Greyson Porter and Jake Carter get another opportunity to tackle a tough course this weekend. Of the three, only Porter has experience playing the course for the Seminoles after competing in the tournament last year.
Second and third round tee times are scheduled to begin at 9AM ET each day. Live stats for the tournament will be on Golfstat.com.
