TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 27 Florida State men’s tennis team (13-5, 3-1 ACC) travels to North Carolina to take on the Duke Blue Devils (10-7, 3-3 ACC) on Friday at 3:00 p.m. before facing the No. 11 UNC Tarheels (16-2, 3-1 ACC) at noon on Sunday.
Last time out, the nationally-ranked Seminoles dropped a tough match at home to No. 47 UCF last Sunday. Prior to the loss, the Noles rode a four-match win streak over No. 15 Florida, Miami, Clemson, and No. 34 Louisville.
North Carolina will be looking to avenge last year’s defeat at the hands of the Seminoles, as the then-No. 51 Noles upset the No. 1-ranked Tarheels 4-3 in Tallahassee last March. The Florida State victory was the first in school history over the No. 1 team in the nation.
Similarly, the Seminoles defeated Duke 5-2 at home that same weekend last season. Both Duke and UNC hold the advantage in the all-time series.
Florida State is currently tied for the third-best in-conference record (3-1) with Georgia Tech and North Carolina.
The Seminoles are led in wins by redshirt junior Lucas Poullain, who holds a 12-4 record on court three. Poullain and fellow redshirt junior Jose Gracia are tied the team lead with 10 doubles wins on court two.
No. 52 sophomore Aziz Dougaz and No. 125 junior Guy Iradukunda each have nine singles victories, including four each over nationally-ranked opponents.
As a doubles pair, No. 71 Dougaz/Iradukunda were undefeated before suffering their first loss of the season against UCF, dropping their record to 10-1 on the year.
Freshman Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar holds a 10-2 record in singles, playing on courts five and six.
Noles in the Polls
Last Friday’s dominating 4-0 road victory at Louisville jumped Florida State up two spots from No. 29 to No. 27 in the nation. Duke checks in at No. 56, while the Tarheels are currently ranked No. 11 in the nation.
