No. 3 Florida State Completes Mid-Week Schedule at Jacksonville

# 3 FLORIDA STATE (33-9, 14-1 ACC)


Florida State, ranked No. 3 in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll this week, had won nine straight before falling to Miami on Saturday and Sunday. Florida State leads the ACC with a 14-1 mark, well ahead of Clemson (8-4), Wake Forest (11-7) and Georgia Tech (9-6) in the standings. All-American John-Ford Griffin leads the ACC and is second nationally with a batting average of .477. Griffin also leads the conference in hits (73), doubles (17), RBI (51), total bases (126), on base % (.561) and slugging % (.824), while ranking second in home runs (12). The FSU pitching staff is 10th in the country with a team ERA of 3.17 and Justin Lord is tied for the national lead with 10 saves.

JACKSONVILLE (25-14)


The Dolphins are 25-14 on the season after taking two of three at Samford over the weekend. JU won 11-6 on Friday and 10-0 on Sunday, falling 6-3 in Saturday’s contest. 2B B.J. Weed leads the team with a .386 batting average while C Chad Oliva is the team’s top power hitter with a team-high 12 home runs and 45 RBI. Jacksonville is 12-9 at home this year and have a TAAC record of 12-6.


SERIES INFORMATION


The Seminoles lead the all-time series 87-29, dating back to 1964. FSU defeated JU 9-4 last Wednesday and has now won 17 straight over the Dolphins. Jacksonville’s last win came on April 20, 1994 by a score of 3-0 in Jacksonville. JU head coach Terry Alexander played at Florida State under Woody Woodward.
