No. 3 Women’s Golf Wins The Dickson Championship

THE WOODLANDS, Texas (seminoles.com) – Led by individual medalist Morgane Metraux, the No. 3 Florida State women’s golf team won the team championship at The Dickson Invitational on The Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club.  The win for Metraux marked her second consecutive individual title after winning the Florida State Match-Up earlier this month and was the school-record fifth-consecutive team championship of the year for the Seminoles.  The Seminoles have won five of their first seven tournaments of the year with their victory in this event coming by a school-record tying 24 stokes.  Florida State won the Jacksonville Classic during the fall 2015 season also by 24 strokes.

Metraux (Lausanne, Switzerland) defeated Maddie Szeryk of Texas A&M by six strokes to claim the individual championship.  The Seminoles defeated No 10 Kent State by 24 strokes as they counted three under par scores for the three-round tournament.  Florida State, the highest ranked squad in the 16-team event, defeated four teams in the top 25 and eighth teams in the top 50 in winning the tournament championship.

The win for Metruax was the third of her career, her second consecutive win and her third of the 2016-17 fall and spring seasons.  She carded three round in the 60’s (69-66-67), finished with a 202 total for the three rounds tournament (one stroke off of her career low) and with a career-low and school record minus 14 strokes under par.  Metraux became just the second player in school history to win individual championships in consecutive events after winning the individual championship at the Florida State Match-Up.  She joined Seminole All-American Nadia Ste-Marie, who won individual titles at the Lady Seminole Invitational and the Beacon Woods Invitational during the fall of 1988, as the only two Florida State players to win back to back individual championships.

“The girls played a really good round of golf today,” said head coach Amy Bond.  “The conditions were hard because the wind started to blow and the course got backed up.  I was really proud of how they handled playing with a big lead because it’s easy to lose your focus when you are playing so well.  It’s very exciting to get a fifth team championship and we are looking forward to playing at the Clover Cup in Arizona.”

The Seminoles continue their spring schedule at the Clover Cup hosted by the University of Notre Dame at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz., March 17-19.
